About The ArtistsMargaret Wu A native of Hong Kong, she came to Southern California at age five and started painting and drawing at the age of six. At the age of 19 she moved from California to New York then to Boston where she attending the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. She was later accepted to study with the world renowned authority of Renaissance Art and American Impressionism: Giovanni Castano, of Boston, in which she was his protégé for eight years. In her apprenticeship she received an academic, old school education in which she studied old master’s work and application. Her focus was realism, impressionism and imaginative art. The masters Valasquez, Sargent and Sorolla she considers as major artists who have greatly influenced her work.
Margaret Wu’s first show was in Boston at the age of twenty five and was extremely well received by critics and fine art collectors alike. Her works range from portraits, landscapes, drawing and imaginative pieces. Her works have captured a wide international audience with the likes of Harvard University’s President of Board of Overseers, Athelie Irvine Smith, England’s Dr. Ian Bush, and many more famous and accomplished figures.
She is a member of American Society of Portrait Artists (ASOPA) and the National Association of Portrait Painters.
Ms. Wu presently resides in Southern California and focuses on portraits and new works for future exhibitions. Margaret Wu’s pursuit of truth and harmony offer to share with the world a high consciousness to freedom. Adolphe-William Bouguereau Born in La Rochelle, France, Adolphe-William Bouguereau began his studies in 1838 with Louis Sage, a student of renowned Romantic painter Ingres. Bouguereau gained local acclaim as a talented portrait painter before going to Paris in 1846 to attend école des Beaux Arts, noted for its traditional academic approach to painting. In 1850 Bougereau was awarded the coveted Prix de Rome and spent four years at the Villa Medici studying Classical and Renaissance masterpieces. During the 1870s Bouguereau's focus shifted from historical and genre scenes to lighter, lyrical mythological subjects. |
